COURSE PROFICIENCIES

COURSE:  6th FOREIGN LANGUAGE EXPOSURE (F.L.E.X)

I. COURSE OVERVIEW:

With F.L.E.X., students will be exposed to French, Italian, and Spanish study each for a third of the year.  In each course, students will acquire a limited knowledge of the language and culture in order to make an educated decision relevant to future language study. F.L.E.X. gives students an opportunity to try each romance language before making a selection.  Students will be able to compare the languages offered and choose the one that is the best fit for them.  After having been exposed to French, Italian, and Spanish, this decision can now be based upon first-hand experiences rather than preconceived biases.   Through this exposure, students will become more cognizant of the differences between each choice and find the one that best suits their interests.  The ability to pronounce, read, and write the new language and the study of culture can now be taken into consideration.

The World Language department is dedicated to providing opportunities for students of all abilities to experience success in basic foreign language learning.  With the addition of F.L.E.X., students will enter 7th and 8th grade better prepared for their journey into a multi-lingual world.
