INFORMATION
LITERACY
COURSE
OVERVIEW
Information
literacy is a set of abilities requiring individuals to recognize when
information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and organize
and use that information to solve a pre-determined or ongoing set of
questions. In our contemporary world of
rapid technological change and proliferating information resources, these
skills must be developed in order to logically address problems in school and
life. Students will be directed in the
research process to use print and non-print resources through books, magazines
and journals, specialized databases, and Internet searches. While accessing these various mediums, they
will be evaluating the authenticity, validity
And
reliability of the media including graphical, visual, audio, as well as written
content. Students, as investigators,
will become more self-directed and assume greater control over their own
learning along with becoming more information literate individuals.
